The quantitative research is natural research that systematic in part and phenomenal with relation it. In the Teaching and learning of Mathematics, Mathematics belongings to science that is learned widely every at schools. The Mathematics is science about numbers, relations between numbers and operations process that is used in problems solution. The almost every student afraid with Mathematics. They are said that Mathematics is very difficult. There are many quantitative methods that can used to research, one of it is statistics methods. There are two statistic methods, that is descriptive and inferential methods.
Statistics is a mathematical science pertaining to the collection, analysis, interpretation or explanation, and presentation of data[1]. It also provides tools for prediction and forecasting based on data. It is applicable to a wide variety of academic disciplines, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities, government and business. Statistical methods can be used to summarize or describe a collection of data; this is called descriptive statistics. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistics)
Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of the data in a study. They provide simple summaries about the sample and the measures. Together with simple graphics analysis, they form the basis of virtually every quantitative analysis of data. Descriptive Statistics are used to present quantitative descriptions in a manageable form. In a research study we may have lots of measures. Or we may measure a large number of people on any measure. Descriptive statistics help us to simply large amounts of data in a sensible way. Each descriptive statistic reduces lots of data into a simpler summary.
One important use of descriptive statistics is to summarize a collection of data in a clear and understandable way. For example, assume a psychologist gave a personality test measuring shyness to all 2500 students attending a small college. How might these measurements be summarized? There are two basic methods: numerical and graphical. Using the numerical approach one might compute statistic such as the mean and standard deviation. These statistics convey information about the average degree of shyness and the degree to which people differ in shyness. Using the graphical approach one might create a stem and leaf display and a box plot. These plots contain detailed information about the distribution of shyness scores.
